Narendra Modi (born September 17, 1950) is an Indian politician who is the 14th and current Prime Minister of India since 2014. He also served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 and is the Member of Parliament for Varanasi. Modi is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist volunteer organisation. He was implicated in the 2002 Gujarati riots which killed 1,044 people, the majority of whom were Muslims. His government has been accused of denying Muslims rights, such as demoting Jammu and Kashmir from a state into a union territory, building detention camps in Assam, as well as passing the Citizenship Amendment Act which excluded Muslims from citizenship.
