On November 14, 2019 Berhow arrived to school before the start of classes with a .45 Caliber semiautomatic handgun and attempted to fire the pistol at students in the outside courtyard or quad.

== Personal Life ==
Nathaniel Tennosuke Berhow was born in November 14th, 2003.

He was the son of Mark Berhow and Mami Matsuura Berhow, and the younger brother of Samantha Berhow.

==Saugus High School Shooting==
In November 14th, 2019, Mami Matsuura brought Nathaniel to the high school, not knowing that her son was bringing a gun to school. 

After entering the school, Nathaniel waited for almost 1 hour for the end of period 1 classes. After the students were in the outside courtyard or quad, Nathaniel Berhow gradually showed them his true nature. Nathaniel pulled out his gun and started firing at them.

After firing one round, the pistol jammed. Prior to this Berhow managed to fix the gun and kill 2 while injuring 3 before turning the gun on himself. The entire shooting was only 16 seconds long. The weapon was later identified as a ghost gun assembled by a kit.

* Dominic Blackwell - September 11, 2005 (14 years)

==Response==
The school's response to this shooting increased police security at the school and the school now holds 2 lockdown drills per year following a "Text-a-Tip" hotline for students to report suspicious behavior.

==Possible motives to the Massacre==
Nathaniel's early life before the shooting could have encouraged him to commit the shooting. His father, Mark Berhow, died in December 2017 from a heart attack and had a history of alcoholism. In 2016, one year before the death of Mark, Mami Matsuura (the mother of Nathaniel) sued Mark for the custody of their children.

One of his victims's parents, Brian_%26_Cindy_Muehlberger, decided to make a company called ''Gracie Strong Foundation''. It is about preventing future school shootings and tragedies.
