==Biography== Evonitz was born in South Carolina on 29 June 1963. Upon graduating from high school he briefly served in the military before being honourably discharged. He then went on to work for an air compressor manufacturing company as a salesman. He filed for bankruptcy in 1997 due to being unable to pay his bills following a divorce, but was still working for the company at the time of his death in 2002. Evonitz had a history of sex crimes; in 1987 he was sentenced to three year's probation after pleading guilty to masturbating in front of a 15-year-old girl in public. He was also suspected of a 1994 kidnapping and a 1995 rape in Virginia. On 24 June 2002, Evonitz saw 15-year-old Kara Robinson in her friend's front yard in Columbia. He approached Kara, handed her some magazines to distract her and then pulled a gun on her and forced her into his car. He stopped on the interstate to tie her up, gag her and place her in a large container before driving to his apartment building and carrying the container up to his apartment. Upon being released from the container Kara engaged Evonitz in conversation, getting him to tell her that his was discharged from the military. She also made a note of his doctor and dentist's names. In return, Evonitz asked Kara her name, whose house she was at, if she was a virgin and if she was single. Upon gaining the answers, Evonitz raped Kara, which he did several more times over the next few hours. He also taunted her, telling her that no-one missed her. That night, Evonitz handcuffed Kara to the bed and drugged her with Valium before going to sleep. The next morning, Kara woke up before Evonitz and managed to free herself from her restraints before running away and flagging down a nearby car, which drove her to the local police station. She lead police to Evonitz's apartment, where they found that Evonitz had fled after realizing that Kara escaped. While searching Evonitz's apartment, police found newspaper clippings about the 1997 rape and murder of sisters Kristin and Kati Lisk, leading them to believe that Evonitz was the killer. During the ensuing manhunt, Evonitz's sister told police that he was at a nearby motel. Police went to the motel but found he had already checked out. They were able to track his mobile data to Jacksonville, Florida, where a high speed chase began. Evonitz was cornered in Sarasota, where he shot himself rather than be arrested. After Evonitz's suicide police re-opened the murders of the Lisk sisters and another case, the 1996 kidnapping and murder of Sofia Silva. On 14 August 2002 all three cases were closed after forensic analysis of hairs and clothes fibres found on the three women's bodies proved that Evonitz had killed them.
