Sara's legal troubles dated back to 2012, when she burned down a noted tree at Big Tree Park in Longwood, Florida. The tree was known as "The Senator," and was donated by President Calvin Coolidge in 1929. At 3,500 years old, "The Senator" was the state's oldest bald cypress tree in the state, and fifth oldest in the world until its destruction. It was originally believed that lightning destroyed the tree, but as it turned out, Sara and a friend entered the tree while high on meth, with Sara lighting a fire so they could see better, only to end up setting the tree ablaze.
Sara was arrested and convicted of unlawful burning of lands, as well as drug possession. She was sentenced to 30 months behind bars, but her sentence was suspended under the terms that she serve five years probation. However, Sara had been arrested several times since then, for crimes such as DUI, drug possession, and aggravated assault. Sara was arrested again for drug possession on October 4, 2019, after 22 grams of meth were found in her washing machine, while another 16 grams were found in her drawer.
