Serhiy Fedorovich Tkach (Born September 12, 1952-November 4, 2018) was an Ukrainian police officer turned serial killer. He killed 37 women and little girls from 1980-2005. He was arrested in August, 2005. Many other men were wrongfully imprisoned for Serhiy's killings. One of the men wrongfully jailed killed himself, and another was not released until 2012.
Early Life
Serhiy Tkach was born on September 12, 1952, in Kiselyovisk, Russia SFSR, Soviet Union. He served in the army in Soviet Union. He also claimed to be a veteran of the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan. He was a police criminal investigator in Kemerovo Oblast. After he was caught making up false evidence he was forced to resign.
The Killings
In 1984, many young women and little girls bodies were found near where Tkach lived. He used his police knowledge to mislead investigators looking into his murders. He would strangle and rape 8 to 18-year-old girls. He would preform necrophilic acts on the bodies of his victims. He would regularly hide his scent with tar to keep police dogs off his tail.
Arrest
Serhiy Tkach attended one of his victims funeral, and some of the children there told the police they saw him with the victim last. He was arrested in his home where he later admitted to over 100 murders and demanded the death penalty, but he was only found guilty of 36, and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
