Shawna Forde is a member of the Minutemen American Defense organization convicted of being the ringleader in the double murder of Mexican-Americans Raul and Brisenia Flores. On May 30 2009, Forde, Jason Eugene Bush and Albert Gaxiola gained entry into the home of the Mexican-American Flores family by claiming to be law enforcement officials looking for a fugitive. The three of them had the expectation of finding drugs that could be sold to finance the MAD, but when they didn't find any they took inexpensive jewellery and Jason Bush shot 29-year-old Raul Flores Jr., nine-year-old Brisenia Flores and 31-year-old Gina Gonzalez. Gonzalez survived and pretended to be dead before calling 911 after the three left. They re-entered the house while she was making the call but she was able to arm herself with her husband's pistol and opened fire, wounding Bush and forcing the assailants to retreat. All three were later arrested thanks to testimony from MAD member Chuck Stonex, who had treated Bush's leg. Forde, Bush and Gaxiola were convicted of two counts of capital murder and one count of first-degree attempted murder. Forde and Bush were sentenced to death, whereas Gaxiola received life without parole. Forde and Bush are currently on death row.
