Assault and battery vary from minor scuffles to extremely serious attacks with life-changing consequences.

Consider the following:

1. Why was the attack carried out?
2. Were there weapons?
3. How much violence was used? Was more violence threatened?
4. Was it premeditated?
5. Was it a one-of or did the attacker commit multiple assaults?
6. Was the attacker provoked or in the wrong from the start?
7. Did the attacker enjoy the crime?
