Yeah, you can feel sorry for him. He genuinally didn't have a good life. In real life people don't just wake up one day and decide to murder a bunch of people (well okay a few do, but they generally have something seriously wrong with them), people like him have gone through so much that its left them in a state where the mind has just snaped and there only response is to lash out.
