Yuka Takaoka (高岡由佳; 1999 - ) was a Japanese hostess who gained massive popularity after attempting to murder her boyfriend Luna.

Background

According to the Japanese news, Takaoka dropped out of univerity and became the manager of a hostess bar in Tokyo. In October 2018 she met Luna there, who worked as a bar host in the nearby red light district. Takaoka fell in love with Luna and was willing to spend over ¥1,000,000 (aprox USD9,000) per month on him. On May 20th, 2019, the two started living together.

Three days later, Luna came home late and Takaoka claimed that Luna had become cold towards her. She also found photos of Luna with different women on his phone. When Luna went to bed, she stabbed him with a kitchen knife. Luna woke up shocked and fleed to the first floor lobby. Takaoka followed him and stabbed him again.

The police arrived at the scene and found Takaoka seated on the lobby of the building, with her hands and legs covered in blood. She was smoking a cigarette, talking on the telephone and ignored the police officers that tried talking to her while her boyfriend had collapsed behind her with his abdomen sliced open. She was arrested on the spot.

Trial

On December 3rd, 2019, Takaoka was found guilty of attempted murder. Luna, who had recovered at that time, accepted Takaoka's appologies of ¥5,000,000 (aprox USD45,000). He claimed to hold no grudge against her. He also aappologised to Takaoka for cheating on her and asked the judge for a lighter punishment on Takaoka.

In the end, Takaoka was sentenced to prison for 3 years and 6 months.

Rise in Popularity

After the attempted murder, Takaoka gained massive popularity for being a real life incarnation of a yandere character from the world of anime, such a character, typically female, turns to homicidal violence in pursuit of love.

Her Instagram account gained over 70,000 new followers after her crime, and continous to increase.

A GoFundMe fundraising to bail Takaoka out of jail raised over USD3,800 in the span of two days. The creater of the fundraising took down the donation after it was mass reported.
