* February 5 - [[Lord George Gordon]] is acquitted of high treason for the [[Gordon Riots]], due to his cousin's strong defense that he had no treasonable intent.
* October 19 - The Siege of Yorktown ends with the surrender of the British Army (under command of Lord Charles Cornwallis) to the Continental Army. This would be the final battle of the [[American Revolutionary War]] as the British would thereafter seek a peaceful end to the conflict.
