- February 5 - Lord George Gordon is acquitted of high treason for the Gordon Riots, due to his cousin's strong defense that he had no treasonable intent.
- October 19 - The Siege of Yorktown ends with the surrender of the British Army (under command of Lord Charles Cornwallis) to the Continental Army. This would be the final battle of the American Revolutionary War as the British would thereafter seek a peaceful end to the conflict.
