- March 4 to 8 - Gnadenhutten Massacre: 96 Lenape tribesmen are rounded up and taken to killing houses, where they are beaten, scalped and hacked to death by the Pennsylvania militia under the command of Lieutenant Colonel David Williamson. Many women are gang-raped by the militia before being killed.
- December 3 - Arthur William Hodge is commissioned as a second lieutenant in the 23rd Regiment of Foot in the British Army.
