This criminalized criticism of the American government as of a result, and also made criticism of the government for naturalized citizens punishable by deportation.
*July 1 - [[Napoleon Bonaparte]] launches his military expedition to Egypt, conquering the Ottoman province as of a result. Napoleon then went on to launch an initially successful expedition into Syria, before being eventually defeated and forced to withdraw in 1801.
