Events

• March 30 to 31 - Emperor Napoleon I of France is defeated at the Battle of Paris by the Sixth Coalition. The Napoleonic Wars and the First French Empire come to a brief end.
• April 11 - Napoleon I abdicates unconditionally as Emperor of the French, per the Treaty of Fontainebleau. He initially offered to abdicate in favor of his son, but the coalition rejected this.
• May 30 - Napoleon begins his first exile in Elba, which will last nearly nine months.
• December 24 - The Treaty of Ghent is signed, ending the War of 1812 between the United States and the United Kingdom, however, news of the treaty had not yet reached Europe, and the Battle of New Orleans took place a month later in 1815, with an American victory, and the United States did not ratify the treaty until two months later, in which peace went into effect.
