*December 2 - [[Charles-Louis Napoleon Bonaparte|President Charles-Louis Napoleon Bonaparte]] stages a third, and successful coup d'état, this time against the Second French Republic, as he was limited to one term (which ended in 1852), and in the process, successfully dissolves the National Assembly and granted him dictatorial powers, leading to the Republic's downfall.
