* September 15 - The 16th Street Baptist Church bombing is carried out by [[United Klans of America]] members [[Robert Edward Chambliss]], [[Bobby Cherry]], [[Herman Frank Cash]], and [[Thomas E. Blanton, Jr.]] Four African-American girls are killed and between 14 and 22 people are injured.
* November 2 - [[Ngô Đình Diệm]], President of South Vietnam, is deposed and assassinated in a U.S.-backed military coup.
* November 22 - In a motorcade in Dallas, Texas, U.S. President John F. Kennedy is [[Assassination of John F. Kennedy|fatally shot]] by [[Lee Harvey Oswald]], and Governor of Texas John Connally is seriously wounded. Upon Kennedy's death, Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson becomes the 36th President of the United States. A few hours later, President Johnson is sworn in aboard Air Force One, as Kennedy's body is flown back to Washington, D.C. Stores and businesses shut down for the next four days, in tribute, after Kennedy's assassination. Oswald then fatally shot Officer J.D. Tippit, but was later arrested at a movie theater and charged for the murders of President Kennedy and Officer Tippet.
*November 24 - Lee Harvey Oswald is fatally gunned down by local nightclub owner [[Jack Ruby]] while police officers were escorting him out of the Dallas Police Headquarters.
*December 9 - [[Thanom Kittikachorn]] is named Prime Minister of Thailand, and subsequently establishes a [[military dictatorship]].
*December 17 - The [[Supreme Council for National Reconstruction]] (the ruling military junta of South Korea since 1961) is disbanded. Chairman [[Park Chung-hee]] proclaims the formation of the Third Republic of Korea and names himself president.
