* January 11 - 12-year old Shanda Sharer is [[Kidnapping|kidnapped]], [[torture]]d, and [[murder]]ed by [[Melinda Loveless]], [[Laurie Tackett]], [[Hope Rippey]], and [[Toni Lawrence]] in one of the worst crimes to occur in the history of the state of Indiana.
* January 16 - End of the Salvadoran Civil War.
* February 15 -  [[Jeffrey Dahmer]] is sentenced to 15 consecutive life terms in prison, all with no chance of parole.
* February 16 - [[Abbas al-Musawi]], Secretary-general of [[Hezbollah]], is assassinated. He is succeeded by [[Hassan Nasrallah]].
