September 4 - The Roman Empire falls when, its last de facto Emperor, Romulus Augustulus, is deposed by Odoacer, who becomes the first King of Italy. Legally, Julius Nepos becomes legally the last "Western Roman Emperor". The Eastern Roman Empire, also known as the Byzantine Empire, would survive until 1453.
