Aaron Burr (February 6, 1756 - September 14, 1836) was an American politician who had served as the third vice president under Thomas Jefferson. However, this position had ended when he infamously shot and killed Alexander Hamilton in Weehawken, New Jersey on July 11, 1804.
After his four year tenure as Vice President, he went west to the American frontier and his secret activities led to his arrest in Alabama for alleged treachery. He was acquitted on this charge and went to live in Europe until 1812 when he continued practicing law. At the age of 80, he died of a stroke on September 14, 1836.
