On May 15, 2020, Disney ordered a cease and desist against ''Club Penguin Online'', closing down the game that same day. The company also disclosed the following message regarding the illegal activities and the protection of the game:

Later, Riley was reportedly arrested with convictions of child pornography and copyright infringement,<ref name=":1" /><ref>https://web.archive.org/web/20220712033737/https://variety.com/2020/digital/news/club-penguin-shutdown-disney-copyright-arrest-child-porn-1234608046/</ref> with his Twitter account being deleted alongside. He was eventually granted bail pending further inquiries, according to detectives,<ref name=":0" /> and his current whereabouts are unknown.
