Adib Bin Hassan Al-Shishakli (in Arabic, أديب بن حسن الشيشكلي), (Hama, Ottoman Syria, 1909 - Ceres, Goiás, Brazil, September 27, 1964) was a Syrian military leader and president of Syria in the period 1953- 1954
Although he was born in Ottoman Syria and is considered Syrian, his origin is doubtful. His surname Shishakli is a common Turkish surname, and is written as Çiçekli in Turkish. Çiçek means flower in Turkish and Çiçekli (also transcribed as Shishakli) means flowery. The known fact about his family is his father Ali Hasan Shishakli was a Turk, who was born in Ankara, and his mother was of Syrian origin. [Citation needed] It is often argued that his family was a remarkable Syrian-Kurdish family. [ citation needed] However, this statement is questionable, since his father was a Turkish man and his mother's ethnicity is only known to be Syrian. It was a family that lived in the sanctuary of Hama, valiato (Ottoman province) of Syria, since during its childhood, Syria was part of the Ottoman Empire.
