Ali Qazimaj

Ali Qazimaj is a Kosovar asylum seeker to the UK responsible for the 2016 murders of Peter and Sylvia Stuart.
Biography edit
Qazimaj fled Kosovo in 1999 and was granted asylum in the UK. He was convicted of several minor criminal offences, sometimes while under the assumed name Marco Costa.
Between 29 May and 3 June 2016, Qazimaj, who was in crippling gambling debt, forced his way into the home of the Stuart family, who he wrongly believed to be millionaires. When they refused to give him money he stabbed both of them to death and disposed of their bodies. Peter Stuart, who had been stabbed nine times, was later found in a ditch, but Sylvia's body was never found.[1]
During the investigation, suspicion fell on Qazimaj because he had quit his job and gone to Luxemburg shortly after the murders, and had called his father on the day of the disappearence saying he had "done something bad".[2] One witness also reported that Qazimaj had told him the nearby marshes were "a good place to dispose of a body". Qazimaj's Citroen, which he had abandoned, was searched, and blood and hair containing the Stuart's DNA was found inside.
Qazimaj was arrested in Luxemburg and extradited back to the UK for trial. His only defence was to claim that he was not Ali Qazimaj, but another person named Vital Dapi. DNA testing, fingerprint evidence and several witnesses all disproved this claim and he was convicted of murder.[3] He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 35 years, meaning he cannot be released until at least 2052.[4]
