“ | Things are changing, people. The old rules no longer apply. The White race is rising, it is resisting and the enemy is backing down. But we will not let up simply because they are giving up ground. We will push forward until they no longer exist. We will erase our enemies from existence. We will burn their books. The lessons of this Dark Age will be taught to the children, but the names and faces of the perpetrators of these crimes against our race will be erased from history. | „ |
~ Andrew Anglin. |
Andrew Anglin (born July 27, 1984) is an American journalist affiliated with the Alt-Right and the founder and editor of The Daily Stormer. Anglin is known to be a neo-Nazi and white supremacist, although he claims to prefer the term "American Nationalist", and frequently promotes anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. Naturally, he supported Donald Trump's presidential campaign, although he also expressed support for British left-wing politician Jeremy Corbyn for his anti-globalist stance.
Views edit
Despite being known as a white supremacist, Anglin was known in high school as a member of the hippie movement who was often seen wearing a "fuck racism" patch. His behaviour changed during his second year, when he began espousing conspiracy theories and allegedly self-harmed.[1] Since then, Anglin has described his goal as "to ethnically cleanse White nations of non-Whites and establish an authoritarian government",[2] and publicly endorsed Nazism, although he has denied wanting to adopt the more violent parts of the Nazi Party's regime.[3] He has also expressed support for Donald Trump due to his policy of banning Muslims from the USA.[4]
As well as Donald Trump, Anglin has expressed support for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin for being "friendly with the European far-right", and "effectively molding a new theocratic state".[5] Like Putin, Anglin has expressed misogynistic views, although his views are far more extreme than Putin's as he has accused women of supporting liberal policies because of "their depraved sexual desires"[6] and supports raping women.[7] He is also extremely fascist and homophobic and has engaged in Holocaust denial.[8] However, he has expressed support for Asians, although he stills finds them to be primitive compared to white people.[9]
Lawsuits edit
Dean Obeidallah edit
Muslim-American radio presenter Dean Obeidallah sued Anglin in August 2017 after The Daily Stormer falsely accused him of celebrating the Manchester suicide bombing by an Islamic extremist during which 23 people were killed. The court ruled against Anglin in July the following year.[10]
Unite the Right rally edit
Anglin and fellow Daily Stormer writer Robert "Azzmador" Ray were some of the alt-right figures sued by nine residents of Charlottesville, Virginia, for allegedly conspiring to incite racial violence at the 2017 Unite the Right rally, which both had attended. A default judgment was made against Anglin after he failed to show up at court.[11]
Tanya Gersh edit
In 2017, the Southern Poverty Law Center filed a lawsuit against Anglin on behalf of Jewish property developer Tanya Gersh. The suit alleged that Anglin was responsible for a harassment campaign against Gersh after he published her contact details in an article for the Stormer along with a message telling readers to "call her and tell her what you think".[12] After Anglin failed to turn up for a scheduled deposition, US District judge Dana Christensen awarded Gersh over $4 million in compensatory damages and ordered Anglin to delete all mentions of Gersh from the site.[13] An arrest warrant was later issued for Anglin when he failed to pay; he is currently believed to be hiding in Cambodia.[14]
