A beheading video is a type of propaganda video in which hostages are graphically decapitated. This is a oommon practice of militant Islamist organizations to intimidate their enemies.
The Islamic State are perhaps the most well-known for their use of beheading videos, so much so that other radical Islam organizations have denounced the practice.
