Hoeryong concentration camp was a political concentration camp in North Korea. The official name is Kwan-li-so (penal labor colony) No. 22. The camp is a maximum security area, completely isolated from the outside world. Prisoners and their families are held in lifelong detention.
According to a North Korean defector, Camp 22 contained gas chambers where unethical experiments were conducted on whole families.
As of 2012, Camp 22 is closed down.
