{{Mature}} [[File:120310censorship.jpg|thumb]] {{Quote|No Discussion of National Affairs|''Tea House'', 1953}} '''Censorship''' is the suppression of speech, public communication, or other information. The motives of censorship could be political, economical, moral or other motives. The stated reason of censorship could be considering certain information objectionable, harmful, sensitive, or "inconvenient". The goal of censorship could range from simply preventing certain information to creating completely alternative information environment. While there are a few cases of censorship which are widely accepted, such cases are rare and may be cited as the excuse of larger-scale censorship. In certain countries with high controversial political system, laws could be made to protect and "guide" censorship. In such cases, criticisms of censorship could be deflected and punished for "violating the law". Censorship is practiced by those on both the far-left and the far-right. Even though each radical side typically advocates for different things to be censored, it is a dictatorship technique regardless. == Effect == Censorship could induce fear and antipathy of censored topics in targeted people. Antipathy of people who attempts to mention or discuss the censored topics is induced as well. Censorship could ensure the promoted narrative unchallenged by covering the criticisms or warning, arresting the critics. Censorship could greatly encourage self-censorship and [[compelled speech]] since such actions could prevent possible prosecution.
