Dr. Chao-Tiao Yumol II (b. 1983-1984) is a Filipino former physician and convicted criminal who is the perpetrator of the 2022 Ateneo de Manila shooting. His motive in the shooting was a personal vendetta between him and the Furigay family.

2022 Ateneo de Manila shooting edit

On July 24, 2022, former Lamitan, Basilan Mayor Rosita Furigay attended her daughter's graduation ceremony for the School of Law students. Yumol went to the campus via GrabTaxi before blending with the crowd to instigate his attack.

At 3:30 pm, Yumol opened fire at the Areté Building which was the venue for the ceremony. Furigay was shot dead along with two others. The other two were identified as a 35-year old security guard named Jeneven Bandiala and Furigay's executive assistant named Victor George Capistrano. Furigay's 25-year old daughter, Hanna Furigay was also injured during the attack and rushed to the Quezon Memorical Medical Center for treatment.

Yumol attempted to escape the campus grounds, he threatened a passerby and stole his vehicle in order to flee the scene. He ended up crashing on several vehicles at Aurora Boulevard, then attempted to flee on foot. He was eventually apprehended by the police officers after attempting to ride through a mini-bus. He was indicted of three charges of murder, frustrated murder, along with violating the Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016 and malicious mischief according to the Philippine National Police.

After the incident, President Bongbong Marcos called for immediate investigation of the shooting. As a result, the graduation ceremony was temporarily canceled in order to assist the other students, teachers, and staff in the campus.

Online presence edit

Chao-Tiao Yumol has a verified Facebook account which had over 76,000+ followers. After the shooting incident, Facebook shuts down his account. Prior to the shooting incident, Yumol openly expresses his support for both Rodrigo Duterte and Bongbong Marcos while criticizing the Furigays, who also happens to be a supporter of Leni Robredo, which he openly defame as well.

Since 2018, Yumol has been accusing the Furigays of alleged illegal drug dealing, where the Furigays filed 76 charges of cyber libel case against him. He surrended on September 2019. Despite the allegations, the claims were dismissed due to the staggering lack of evidence.

The other pro-BBM pages such as "Maharlika" defended Yumol into claiming that he had to kill Furigay due to the "injustices" he suffered from the Furigay family and even a petition was created in hopes of bailing Yumol for his crimes.
