Minto, 22, who nicknamed himself 'The Demon', used Facebook to entice young women to the seaside B&B where he lived and worked. He had attempted what he had done to Sasha on other young women previously but had not successfully murdered anyone prior.
According to authorities, MInto offered Marsden a job working at the hotel, then proceeded to stab her 58 times in the head and neck. He then sexually assaulted her as she was dying, and after she was dead, he set her body on fire and dumped it in an alley behind a hotel.[1]
On 3 February 2013, Minto was charged with Marsden's murder. He pleaded not guilty when he appeared in court on 24 April 2013. He was remanded in custody to stand trial on 15 July 2013.
Minto's trial began on 15 July 2013. On 26 July Minto was found guilty of Marsden's murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum time of 35 years to serve before being eligible for parole.[2]
Minto appealed against his sentence in February 2014, but it was upheld by the Court of Appeal of England and Wales and the minimum term of 35 years was upheld.
