Emma Neil Ogle (March 5, 1956 - November 6, 2019) was a North Carolina-based teacher who engaged in a sexual relationship with one of her students, and later masterminded a murder-suicide.

Biography edit

Emma had taught at Vance High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, before being hired as a career and technical education teacher at Garinger High School in Huntersville in 2014.

During the spring of 2019, Emma engaged in a relationship with a 17-year-old student that later became sexual during the summer. The unnamed teen reported Emma on October 31, revealing that their trysts happened off-campus, and it led to Emma being arrested later that day.

Emma was charged with her crimes and later suspended from her job wtihout pay, though she was released on bond on the following day (November 1). She had been scheduled to return to court on November 19, but on November 6, she shot her husband, Michael Ogle, to death in their home, after which a relative of the couple entered the home to check on Michael (who hadn't shown up at his job) and spotted a deceased Michael as well as Emma holding a gun. Ogle later shot herself, and both bodies were discovered by police after they entered the home.

A quick investigation determined that the couple was killed in a murder-suicide, with Emma as the perpetrator. A motive wasn't revealed, though police mentioned that Emma's sex crime allegations would be considered as a factor in her actions.
