Ewald von Demandowsky
|
Ewald von Demandowsky was a Nazi film producer.
In 1937 he was made Reichsfilmdramaturg at the Ministry of Propaganda, in which capacity he aborted projects that Joseph Goebbels deemed unwanted. Two years after this, he was made head of the second biggest Nazi film company in Germany, Tobis Filmkunst. He produced several propaganda films, including Ich klage an, a film justifying Action T4 as a kindness, although in reality it was mass murder. During World War II, von Demandowsky was commissioned as an SS officer and had an affair with actress Hildegard Knef. At the end of the war, Demandowsky fled from Berlin but was captured and placed in a POW camp. Although he was released, in 1946 he was captured again and handed over to the Soviet Union. He was sentenced to death for producing fascist war propaganda and shot on October 7 1946.
