Reports revealed that the home was a beacon of domestic disputes, most notably an incident where Guadalupe's husband, Israel Alvarez, was arrested on a domestic violence charge on September 11, 2013. it was reported that on that day, Alvarez shoved his wife and then took her cellphone and removed the battery. Guadalupe phoned 911 at her children's elementary school, leading to Alvarez's arrest, though he was released two days later.

According to records, Guadalupe never filed for a protective order against her husband, and on September 16, the couple asked a family friend for advice on staying together, talking about "normal problems" they were having. However, Guadalupe turned heel three days later when she fatally shot Alvarez and their three children (ages 10, 8, and 4), before committing suicide by shooting herself. No motive was ever revealed for the deaths, and in addition, the evil Guadalupe never left a suicide note.
