Hans Asperger
Appearance
“ | Asperger managed to accommodate himself to the Nazi regime and was rewarded for his affirmations of loyalty with career opportunities. He joined several organizations affiliated with the NSDAP (although not the Nazi party itself), publicly legitimized race hygiene policies including forced sterilizations and, on several occasions, actively cooperated with the child ‘euthanasia' program. | „ |
~ Herwig Czech on Asperger's involvement in Action T4. |
Johann "Hans" Friedrich Asperger (18th February 1906 - 21st October 1980) was a German scientist and medical theorist. Although chiefly remembered for his work on autist spectrum disorder (the form of autism known as "Asperger's syndrome" is named after him), Asperger's legacy has become controversial in recent years due to the revelation that he was involved in Action T4, an involuntary euthanasia program executed by the Nazi Party, according to historian Edith Scheffer, who discovered in 2018 that Asperger had cooperated with the Nazi eugenics program and had referred multiple disabled children to a clinic where they were killed.
