Mature Imran Nasir Ahmad Khan (born September 6, 1973) is a British former politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Wakefield from 2019 until 2022. Although he was elected as a member of the Conservative Party, he is currently considered an Independent as he was convicted of sexually assaulting a child several years before and expelled from the party. == Biography == Ahmad Khan was born in Wakefield in 1973. He attended Silcoates School and later studied the Russian language at the Pushkin Institute. As an adult, Ahmad Khan worked for the United Nations as a counter-terrorism expert. In the 2019 British general election, he used this experience to run for office as MP for Wakefield. During the election, Ahmad Khan received publicity for skydiving into Wakefield in response to the Labour Party candidate's remark that he was being "parachuted in" to replace the previous candidate. He easily won the election and gained worldwide attention as the first openly gay Muslim to hold political office. As an MP, Ahmad Khan supported the UK leaving the European Union. He aided his constituency in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic by having 110,000 face masks delivered from Vietnam to the NHS. He also secured millions of pounds for the Cultural Recovery Fund in Wakefield. However, in June 2021 he was arrested on suspicious of historic sexual abuse of children. The charges was based on a claim that in 2008, Ahmad Khan sexually assaulted a 15-year-old boy, groped him and asked him to watch pornography. Ahmad Khan denied the claims "in the strongest terms". His trial began on September 10. During the trial, the brother of the boy who was assaulted claimed that Ahmad Khan had "lunged" at him at the same party, and a third witness claimed that in 2010 he had gone to sleep at a party in Pakistan and woken up to find Ahmad Khan performing an unspecified sex act on him. He was convicted and expelled from the Conservative Party. He resigned as an MP on May 3, and was later sentenced to 18 months in prison
