On 8th February 2020, Thomma shot and killed two fellow soldiers in a military base over the "financial dispute" cited by the authorities. He then drove to a nearby shopping mall, where he opened fire at random passers-by, before entering the mall and shooting people inside. The shooting continued for 16 hours, until police marksmen were finally able to locate Thomma and shoot him dead. It was later confirmed that 26 people had died, excluding Thomma, and 57 had been wounded, 25 of whom have since been discharged.{{Stub}}
