Jamie Michael Colin Waylett (born 21 July 1989) is a former British actor whose only acting role has been Vincent Crabbe in six of the eight films in the Harry Potter series due to legal troubles in 2009.

Early Life

Waylett was born in Kilburn, London, the fifth of six children born to Alan Waylett (born 1958) and Theresa Waylett (née De Freitas, born 1958). At the age of nine, Waylett was hit by a car and recovered full mental faculties.

Harry Potter

While Waylett was a student at Emmanuel Primary School, his photo was used as part of the auditioning process for the Harry Potter films. He was originally considered for the part of Dudley Dursley, Harry Potter's bully cousin. He was eventually cast as Vincent Crabbe, Draco Malfoy's friend and henchman, after an audition for the film's director Chris Columbus and appeared in six of the films altogether, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Criminal history

On April 7 2009, Waylett was arrested after being found with cannabis, an illegal drug. A search of his home uncovered that he had been growing cannabis there. He pleaded guilty to possession of drugs and was sentenced to 120 hours of community service. In August 2009, his Harry Potter co-star Joshua Herdman announced that Waylett would not return for the last two Harry Potter films, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and its sequel Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

On October 14 2011, Waylett was arrested for a far more serious charge. He had been caught on camera during the 2011 London riots, participating in acts of looting and arson. Specifically, he was accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail during an attack on a chemist's in Chalk Farm. He was sentenced to two years in prison for public disorder and for a separate offence of more cannabis possession.
