Jean-Bédel Bokassa during his 1970 state visit to Romania

Jean-Bédel Bokassa was the head of state of the Central African Republic and it's sucessor the Central African Empire from his coup d'etat on 1st January 1966 until 20 September 1979. During this period he served almost 11 years as president and for almost three years he served as emperor. After he was overthrown in 1979 he went into exile until he returned in 1986 and was put on trial for treason,murder and convicted of these offences. He was mainly tried for 14 offences including murder, treason, cannabalism, illegal use of property, assault and battery and embezzelement. He was imprisoned until 1996 where he finally died of a heart attack.
