Jeffrey T. Johnson (1953 - 2012) was an American man who perpetrated the 2012 Empire State Building shooting.

Background edit

Johnson was born in Japan in 1953 and moved to the United States when he was 10 months old. He worked for six years at a clothing designer, but was laid off during a downsizing of workers. This caused financial problems and eventually Johnson decided to kill his boss after realising he was going to be evicted.

Shooting edit

On Friday, August 24, 2012, at the 33rd Street side of the Empire State Building, Johnson emerged from behind a van, walked over to his former boss Steven Ercolino and shot him dead. He had apparently threatened Ercolino several times before. He put a further four bullets into Ercolino and walked away, however a construction worker alerted two nearby police officers who shot and killed Johnson and injured nine others. None of the bystanders injured suffered life-threatening injuries.
