Macdonald}} '''Sir John Alexander McDonald''' is the first prime minister of Canada. McDonald has been best known for building and guiding a successful national government for the new Dominion for Canada. While McDonald has been largely credited as one of the key founders of Canadian establishment, he is responsible for establishing the [[Canadian Indian residential school system]]. In an attempt to expand forth Canadian establishment, this came at the cost of forcibly assimilate indigenous peoples out of their property in Canadian establishment schools. He has been influenced by [[Richard Pratt]]'s belief that the new land should "kill the Indian and save the man." Indigenous children were not only deprived of their rights to their lands, but were deprived to practice their cultures as well. McDonald allowed officials to give indigenous peoples corporal punishment, torture, and execution if they did not comply to his regulations.
