José Ángel Ramos Betts (April 8, 2008 – January 10, 2020) was a student at Colegio Cervantes who perpetrated a school shooting at his own school. During the shooting, he was armed with 2 guns; a .22 pistol and a Glock pistol, both obtained from his grandfather. Before the shooting, he posted videos on YouTube, most of them being Fortnite videos. He admired the Columbine shooters to the point that, during the shooting, he was dressed in a white shirt with the words "Natural Selection" on it, similar to what Eric Harris wore during the Columbine shooting.

He was known to be a student of academic excellence before the shooting and had no known problems reported about him. On January 10, 2020, at around 8:40 a.m., he asked the teacher to go to the bathroom and said, "Hoy va a ser el día/Today will be the day" before he started shooting. The shooting ended when he committed suicide. If he continued the shooting a bit longer, he could have killed a lot more people.

Biography

José was born on April 8th, 2008 in Torreon, Mexico. His grandfather was a drug trafficker and had a record of drug trafficking. His father was also a drug trafficker and was in prison for most of José's life. Both of his maternal grandparents were killed, possibly by the cartels.

In 2014, José's mother died in an operation failure. After his mother's death, he lived with his paternal grandparents.
