The Kanjuruhan Stadium disaster was a fatal human crush that occured on 1 October 2022 during in the middle of a football match at Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. After Arema F.C. lost to Persebaya Surabaya, around 3000 Arema F.C. fans invaded the pitch. The police attempted to stop the riot, but failed, which led to the deployment of riot police into the stadium, in which they launched tear gas to the supporters, which caused a stampede of Arema F.C. fans trying to escape the stadium from the effects of the gas. A crush formed at one of the exits, resulting in some fans being asphyxiated and dying.

A total of 131 people died in the disaster, whilst another 547 people suffered from non-fatal injuries. The disaster is also the second deadliest stadium disaster in association football history, only behind the 1964 Estadio Nacional disaster in Peru, which killed 328 people.
