Born in Yeongju, Gyeongsangnam-do, he was raised in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi-do. He was one of only a handful of patients ever recorded to be suffering from Gigantiform cementoma. His daughter, Ayun Lee,[1] also has the condition, which has led scientists to believe that there may be a hereditary component to the disease. The father and daughter pair are the only known cases in Korea.

Because the surgery to remove the tumors left Lee with only his molars, he became known as "Molar Daddy"[2]and his story was publicized in mass media. He also penned a book called "Molar Daddy's Happiness".[3]

Controversies edit

On 5 September 2017, his wife, Choe Mi-sun, passed away. It became controversial whether she killed herself or was murdered.[4] However, stories emerged that Choe was forced to sleep with other men and was recorded for money.

On 30 September 2017, he molested Ayun's friend with the assistance of her daughter after being drugged.[5]When she woke up in his house, he strangled her to death. Young-hak later disposed her body with help from Ayun. It became popular topic in South Korean society and many people were shocked.

Many South Koreans were shocked when what he did was discovered. He was found to be a criminal, with 11 counts in his rap sheet.[6] He even raped several women during secondary school,[7] and his school planned to expel him, but it never happened due to the principal.[7]

He was poor, therefore lots of people donated to him when his story was known to the society. Recently, however, lots of people were shocked again as he used all of the money for luxurious cars.[8]

He was arrested and initially sentenced to death, but it was later commuted to long-term imprisonment. Ayun was sentenced to 46 years in jail under the Juvenile Law.
