Lisa Marie Montgomery (February 27, 1968 - January 13, 2021) was an American woman responsible for the murder of Bobbie Jo Stinnett.

Biography edit

Montgomery grew up in an abusive household, where she was regularly raped by her stepfather and his friends. She attempted to escape by marrying twice, but in both of these marriages she experienced domestic abuse.

In 2004, Montgomery entered into a custody dispute with one of her former husbands. In order to prove she was fit to raise her children she claimed to already be looking after a child. When ordered to produce one, she began stalking a pregnant woman named Bobbie Jo Stinnett. On December 16 she entered Stinnett's house and strangled her to death before cutting open her womb and removing her unborn child, which surprisingly survived.

When police came to interview Montgomery after tracking her down using mobile data they found her with the stolen newborn in her lap watching a news report about her crime. She was arrested on suspicion of murder and child abduction. DNA testing was used to confirm the child's identity. Montgomery was convicted and sentenced to death despite her defence's claim that her various traumas had lead her to become delusional. Despite several appeals and stays of execution, she was ultimately executed by lethal injection on January 13, 2021.
