Liu Guosheng (柳國升; 1998-) is a Chinese chef who stabbed a student when he was in Hong Kong after hearing their opposing political views.
Backgrouond
On October 19th, 2019, 19-year old student surnamed Hung was distributing pro-democracy leaflets near Tai Po Market at around 5pm. According to an eyewitness, Liu charged at Hung with a 20cm knife and slashed his neck, and when the victim fell on the ground he stabbed him in the stomach.
Photos and videos circulating online showed that the victim's intestimes were exposed as he lay on the gound after the stabbing. Hung was rushed to the hospital and remained in the intensive care unit for a week.
Liu later fled the scene but surrendered himself to the police one hour later.
Trial
Liu's trial was initially dated in December 2019, but has been postponed until April 2021.
Liu was originally jailed for 10 years, but sympathy from the judge reduced his sentencing to 6 years and 4 months.
