Martin L. Evanick is a US man imprisoned for federal child pornography offenses.
Evanick was the drummer and lead vocalist for The Core of Your Nightmares, a St. Louis, Missouri-area death metal band, which saw him dress in clown makeup and perform as Vlad the clown.[1] In March and April of 2012, when he was 30, he had sex several times with his 17-year-old victim, identified only as TM.[2] This was legal as 17 is the Missouri age of consent.[1] However he also took two photographs of himself and TM engaged in sexual activity and two more showing closeup views of TM's genitals.[2]
In April TM's mother got in touch with the Collinsville Police Department alleging Evanick may have assaulted TM when she was 16.[2] TM gave a video interview describing sex with Evanick in his Collinsville, Illinois home and the taking of the photographs and the FBI were called in as the photos were in violation of federal US law.[2] Evanick initially denied any relationship with TM or having any photos of her but later admitted both when police found the images on his phone and TM identified herself and Avanick in them.[2] In October 2012 he was arrested, arraigned, and held without bail.[1][2] After learning of the arrest a second girl came forward in November 2012 and alleged Evanick had sex with her when she was 14.[1] This girl claimed he had asked if she was a virgin before having sex with her, something TM also claimed happened to her.[2] Despite not being charged with crimes against the 14-year-old her claims were used against Evanick at sentencing[1] and the FBI described her as a victim of his.[2]
On July 22nd, 2013 he pled guilty to production of child pornography, a crime carrying a minumum of 15 and a maximum of 30 years in prison.[1] On November 4, 2013 he was sentenced to 19 years and 7 months in prison followed by 20 years of supervised release, sex offender registration, a $2000 fine, and a $100 fee.[2]
