Masten Milimu Wanjala was a Kenyan serial killer who admitted to the murders of 12 children. He escaped from police custody on 14 October 2021 and was lynched by angry villagers that evening.
Biography[edit]
Wanjala killed his first victim in 2015 when he was 14, kidnapping 12-year-old Purity Maweu, slitting her throat and drinking her blood before leaving her for dead. Her body was found later that day.
Wanjala's next known crime was in 2019, when he strangled a 13-year-old boy to death. He killed several other children between 2019 and July 2021, posing as a football coach to lure them to a secluded location before strangling them. He eventually became a suspect in one of the murders when he fled the village after the body was found, going into hiding in Kitengela and continuing his murders there.
On 30 June 2021, Wanjala kidnapped 13-year-old Charles Opindo and strangled him to death. He did the same to 12-year-old Junior Mutuku Musyoka on 7 July. After the murders, Wanjala attempted to extract ransom payments from the boy's families, but Kenyan police traced the messages back to his hideout and arrested Wanjala. After being arrested Wanjala confessed to killing 12 children.
Wanjala was held without trial at the Jogoo Road police station for three months. On 14 October 2021 he was somehow able to get hold of some money and bribed the guards into unlocking his cell and letting him escape. He made his way back to his childhood home of Mukhweya, where he was recognised by villagers and chased by an angry mob. Wanjala hid in his parent's house but was dragged out and beaten to death by the mob.
