'''Mauro Carlesse''' (born June 26, 1960) is a Brazilian businessman and politician who has served as Governor of Tocantins since 2018. He is currently suspended from his position for being involved in various corruption cases.
==Biography==
Mauro Carlesse was born in Terra Boa, located in the State of Paraná, however, he would live a large part of his life in the State of Tocantins, where he would work as a farmer and businessman.

In 2012 he was a candidate for mayor of Gurupi for the Green Party, but he would lose the election against Laurez Moreira. In 2013 he joined the Brazilian Labor Party, and in 2014 he was a candidate for state deputy, being elected and in 2017 he became president of the Legislative Assembly of Tocantins. In 2016 Mauro joined the Humanist Party of Solidarity.

In 2018, Mauro took over as interim governor of Tocantins after Governor Marcelo Miranda was removed from office, and was re-elected in the formal elections. In 2019 the Humanist Party of Solidarity is dissolved and Mauro joins Democrats and the Social Liberal Party. Later these parties would unite and form Unión Brasil, of which Mauro is a part. In 2021 he was suspended from his position as governor and his vice governor Wanderlei Barbosa holds the position of interim governor until the next elections.

*In 2015, Mauro was arrested for not paying his alimony and sentenced to pay rent.
*The Electoral Prosecutor's Office has requested the dismissal of Mauro as governor for various irregularities in Mauro's electoral campaign, including using public goods and social services for political purposes, irregular payments and buying political support.
*In 2019, Mauro approved a decree that limited the freedom of the press. According to this new decree, the delegate of the civil police of Tocantins would be in charge of deciding what things could and could not be disclosed in the media. This was widely seen as an attempt at censorship.
*Mauro is suspected of creating five shell officials to gain support in his election as governor, which could lead to embezzlement, [[money laundering]] and [[organized crime]].
*When he was being investigated for bribery, Mauro tried to obstruct justice.
*Finally, in 2021 he was suspended from his position for various cases of corruption and abuse of power within his government.
