Mehmet Ali Ağca (b. January 9, 1958) is a Turkish murderer who had killed Abdi İpekçi on February 1, 1979. However, he is probably most remembered for his attempted assassination of former pope, Saint John Paul II on May 13, 1981. He has been arrested 19 years prior to attempting to kill the pope and had served a ten year sentence.
