Michael Smalls is a 56-year old man from Long Beach, California who murdered 28-year-old Christopher Finley and injured his partner Jacob Touchstone.
Biography edit
Christopher Finley and Jacob Touchstone were at the Mineshaft gay bar where a man in the bar became drunk and was asked to leave. Later on in the night, the man returned with a taser and began threatening the bar customers.
Finley and Touchstone took the man outside the bar and began arguing and later physically fighting with him. During the argument, Smalls approached the men on a bicycle and stabbed Finley and Touchstone in the upper torso around 1:50 a.m. Smalls then left the scene on his bicycle. Both men were taken to the hospital for treatment as police did not think the injuries were life-threatening. Finley died in Touchstone's arms after the attack.
On September 13, 2022, Smalls was arrested while the man with the taser was arrested for unrelated reasons. Smalls was then booked into the Long Beach City Jail to await charges for murder and one count of attempted murder. He is being held on $2 million bail. Police investigators have said that the murder was not an act of gay bashing. Smalls' trail was on October 18, 2022 where he pleaded not guilty. He remains incarcerated on a $3 million dollar bail.
