Michael Zehaf-Bibeau (born Joseph Paul Michael Bibeau) is a Libyan-Canadian mass shooter who caused the 2014 Parliament Hill shootings on October 22, 2014 in Ottawa, Canada.
Background and Early Life edit
Zehaf-Bibeau was born to a Libyan father and a Canadian mother. His parents briefly split up before Michael's birth, and had a rocky and toxic relationship until his parents divorced for good in 1999 when Michael was 17 years of age.
The Shooting edit
Zehaf-Bibeau first bypassed the Canadian National War Memorial, where he killed Corporal Nathan Cirillo, a Canadian soldier and reservist on ceremonial sentry duty. He later entered through the main entrance of Peace Tower. A constable on duty, Samearn Son, alerted the other officers that an intruder with a weapon was on grounds. Son attempted to disarm Zehaf-Bibeau, but failed after Zehaf-Bibeau shot him in the lower body (though Son managed to survive). Though he later ran inside Peace Tower, alerted security officers later shot and killed him on scene.
Authorities have found an extensive criminal record prior to the shootings, with criminal history going towards larceny, drug possession, and parole violations.

Trivia edit
- In 1995, his parents legally changed his name to Joseph Paul Michael Abdallah Bulgasem Zehaf-Bibeau to better reflect the Libyan side of his heritage.
