Muhammad Buhari (born 17 December 1942) is a Nigerian politician and military general who is the current President of Nigeria since 2015. He was previously the military head of state from 1983 to 1985 after taking power in a coup d’etat, overthrowing the democratically elected government of Shehu Shagari. Although he has made numerous economic reforms, his government was accused of multiple human rights violations. He was later overthrown in a coup. Although he had attempted to run for President in the following years, he became President in 2015, attempting to amend his past.
